As concern grows over the death and dearth of these essential social hubs, this documentary takes inventory of those that continue to thrive across the country, inciting a powerful conversation about the importance of community. Since 2010, over 100 queer women’s spaces-from dive bars to bookstores and dance halls to health centers-have shuttered across the United States. It is essential, in my opinion, to have friends who understand my experience as a fat, Black woman in today’s society. “I grew up seeing how important it is to have friends who are like you and be in a community with people who share a similar identity as you…” Danni explained. My fave episode so far is episode 4, “Fat with the Homegirls.” Most of us know what it is like to be the fat friend in our friend circle and experience “mean girl culture” because of it. And so it’s like, for me, how do we give the readers…the folks in the community like a safe space? To have conversation where we can make sure that it is safe. They are having these conversations and building community and at that time I hadn’t launched yet, our TCF Style Lounge. She loved the energy and conversations Toni and Danni were adding to the plus-size rooms. And is serving bawdy-awdy awdy with a generous portion of fun! Our fearless, yet so fabulous leader, Marie Denee, found our hosts on Clubhouse and adored their vibes. The first season of “The Thickening” premiered in September. The Thickening Podcast hosts, Danni “ AmaPoundCake” and Toni “FatBlackLuxury” “The Thickening” Podcast was Born They take us on a wild ride every week, and I can assure you, you don’t want to miss it. Not to mention I love our new curvy best friends, Danni and Toni. “The Thickening” focuses on the lived experiences of plus-size people, celebrating all that we are.
